World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series returns to I-80 Speedway on June 22

GREENWOOD, Neb. — June 14, 2016 — The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series returns to I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb., for the third straight year on Wednesday, June 22 for the NAPA Auto Parts Outlaw Showdown, along with the Malvern Bank SLMR Late Model Series. The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series has visited the high-banked, four-tenths-mile in 10 different seasons, dating back to 1995.

Last year, 2001 World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series champion Danny Lasoski, won at I-80 Speedway in a thrilling race that saw him use a last lap, last turn pass of seven-time and defending series champion Donny Schatz to score the victory. Kerry Madsen led the first five laps, before Lasoski took the top spot. Schatz moved to the lead on lap-28 and would pace two circuits, before Lasoski’s masterful lap-30 pass to take the win at the line. For Lasoski, it was his second win with the series at the track, as he was also victorious at I-80 Speedway in 2000.

In the last five A-Feature events for the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series at I-80 Speedway, there has been five different winners. Joey Saldana, who won in 2014, is the only active current full-time driver with the series that has won at the track. The event at I-80 Speedway is always special for Saldana, as he has relatives in Nebraska.

Leading the way to I-80 Speedway this year is Schatz, who has won nine times thus far in 2016 and took the point lead for the first time this season last week. Brad Sweet, with six wins, is currently second in points, followed by Daryn Pittman, who has reached victory lane on four occasions in 2016. Shane Stewart, has three victories and is fourth in points, with David Gravel, who has three wins, rounding out the top-five.

Saldana, who has three wins this season is sixth in points. Jason Johnson rides in seventh and also has picked up a victory. Jason Sides, who won in April at I-30 Speedway in Arkansas is eighth in the standings, with Logan Schuchart ninth and Paul McMahan 10th.

A pair of drivers are contending for the Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Award with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series in 2016. Greg Wilson from Ohio, who is a two-time Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions title winner and has a win this season, along with 18-year-old Missouri native Clyde Knipp. Each will be making their first visit to I-80 Speedway.

Tickets for the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series NAPA Auto Parts Outlaw Showdown at I-80 Speedway on Wednesday, June 22 can be purchased online at slspromotions.ticketforce.com or at the track on race day.

Discount General Admission tickets can also be purchased at participating NAPA Auto Parts stores. With the $5 discount at NAPA Auto Parts locations, an adult General Admission ticket is $32 and a children’s General Admission ticket (ages 6-12) is $12. Ticket buyers will bring their receipt and exchange for a ticket at the ticket booth on race day.
